Upcoming: February 15, 2023 — I will give a talk at the Symposium on Evolution in Communities jointly organized by the BioSB and NLSEB in Amsterdam.
November 15, 2022 — I started a new position as Assistant Professor at the Technical University in Delft. Excited to move to the Netherlands and join the Dept. of Biotechnology @ TU Delft!
October 11, 2022 — I just gave a talk at the Biological Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Szeged, Hungary. Happy to catch up with old friends and set up new collabs!
October 7, 2022 — New preprint where we use toy fitness landscapes to better understand the emergence of global epistasis.
June 30 - July 2, 2022 — I will be attending the FEMS Conference on Microbiology in Belgrade, Serbia.
June 28, 2022 — New preprint perspective piece where we discuss the concept of the structure-function landscape of microbial consortia.
June 26, 2022 — New preprint led by Juan Díaz Colunga and Abby Skwara, where we show how emergent ecosystem functions follow simple quantitative rules.
May 20, 2022 — New preprint led by Chang-Yu Chang where we highlight the importance of community context to explain coexistence in microbial communities”. Just posted on in BioRxiv.”
January 19, 2022 — We studied metabolic self-organization and functional attractors in synthetic microbial communities. The paper, led by Sylvie Estrela, is out in Cell Systems.
October 11, 2021 — We built a new, improved version of COMETS, a metabolic modeling platform for the computation of microbial ecosystems in time and space. It was just published in Nature Protocols. Great collaboration co-led with Ilija Dukovski, Jeremy Chacon and Mike Quintin. Thanks to all co-authors!
September 17, 2021 — Review on gut microbiota metabolites in autism out in International Journal of Molecular Sciences.
August 20, 2019 — Short perspective on the macroevolutionary consequences of niche construction in microbial metabolism published in Frontiers in Microbiology.
June 14-16, 2021 — Giving a talk at the EMBO Workshop on Predicting Evolution.
April 19-20, 2021 — Attending the Meeting of the Netherlands Society for Evolutionary Biology (NLSEB).
March 8, 2021 — Paper studying the effect of complex ecological interactions on industrial ethanol fermentations out in Nature Communications .
This work was a collaboration with PhD student Felipe Lino and Morten Sommer (DTU, Denmark). We found an useful application for the structure-function landscape theory that we developed previously. We combined it with metabolic modeling (using COMETS) to characterize complex interactions between contaminants in industrial ethanol fermentation, and identify a potentially useful “industrial probiotic”.
February 10-12, 2021 — Paper studying redox imbalances and aging using genome-scale metabolic models published in iScience
November, 3 2020 — Paper on global transcriptional responses in yeast just published in Molecular Biology and Evolution
This is the last paper from my PhD. It was done in collaboration with Balazs Papp and Csaba Pal labs at the Biological Research Center in Szeged, Hungary. It was possible partly thanks to an EMBO Short Fellowship from the European Molecular Biology Organization.
July 1, 2020 — I am giving a talk at the Max Planck Insitute for Evolutionary Biology in Plon, Germany.
April 1, 2020 — Review paper on the ecology and evolution of microbial metabolic strategies published in Current Opinion in Biotechnology.
December 12, 2019 — Paper on how high-order interactions distort the functional landscape of microbial consortia published in PLoS Biology
